Dental Sealants

Having good dental hygiene is an essential part of staying healthy, but can sometimes be hard to maintain. Because of this, Hoyt Street Dental provides sealants as an option to significantly reduce your chances of developing cavities. If you are interested in protecting the health of your teeth, schedule an appointment at Hoyt Street Dental now!

Sealants are a thin, protective coating that lays in the grooves of your molars. This added layer helps to prevent food or bacteria from getting trapped. Sealants can reduce your chances of getting a cavity by up to 80%.

The earlier in life you receive sealants, the more successful they will be in preventing cavities. Because of this, it is preferable to put sealants on children under 14, once the first molars have come in. While most commonly done with children, sealants can be done at any age. Our dentists will examine your teeth and X-Rays to determine whether sealants are right for you.

The Sealant Procedure

The application of sealants is an easy, fast and painless procedure. Our tea will begin by cleaning your teeth and making sure the mouth is dry. They will then apply a thin layer of gel on your tooth as a bond for the sealant. After rinsing off this gel, the sealant will be applied to each of your molars and hardened with a blue light in seconds.

If you do choose to get sealants applied, your dental hygiene should remain the same. With a combination of brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once, you will keep your chances of getting a cavity slim. It is also important to include healthy foods into your diet, as they are less damaging to your teeth. If you are someone who grinds their teeth at night, make sure to wear a nightguard during your sleep.
